What Is It?
The Big Book Bonanza is as simple as a bring and buy book sale but you can add your own twist to
your event.
How big should my event be?
As big or small as you want. It’s up to you to decide how many people you want to invite. It can be just
for you, your friends, family and neighbours or it could be for your work colleagues or people from your
local community.
Where should I hold it?
Think about who and how many people will be attending your event. You can then work out how much
space you will need and decide what venue will be best for you. You can hold it at home, at work, your
community centre, local church hall, pub or school.
When will it take place?
It would be great if you could hold your event in November which is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
If this is not possible, please choose a time to suit you.
Inviting my guests
If you are holding your event at the offi ce you can advertise it by e-mail and put posters up on the
notice boards. If your event is at a larger venue you could ask local businesses, your community centre,
sports centre or church to put up posters. Invitations are included in the pack for you to complete.
The Books
Ask your guests to bring along a few books each to sell at your event. You can charge whatever you feel
appropriate depending on the condition of the book. We suggest £1 per book.
What else could my event include?
You can make your event more of a social occasion and sell refreshments
or hold a small raffle. Or ALTERNATIVELY you could get those creative juices flowing and give this theme a twist. Here are just a few other ideas:
- A cheese and wine book party
- Supper or lunch with friends using recipes from your favourite chef’s book.
- A fancy dress party with favourite book characters
- A quiz night with a literary theme.
- A book-based fi lm evening – supply popcorn and ice cream
You can also sell Foundation merchandise to your friends, family and colleagues.
And finally....
Once you have held your event we ask that you return your funds together with any unsold
merchandise to The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Please use the tear off slip provided at the
bottom of your letter.
If you have any books left over you may want to keep them until your next event or you can donate
them to your local charity shop.
