The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer. We fund research into prevention and early diagnosis, provide support and help people to quit smoking. The charity also campaigns for more research, better treatment and care, improved awareness of signs and symptoms for more effective prevention strategies.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer, the biggest cancer killer in the world.
Whilst many cancers have seen significant improvements in survival in recent years, lung cancer remains the UK’s leading cause of cancer death. Almost 35,000 people die from the disease every year, one every 15 minutes.
Over the past 20 years, the charity has provided £15 million of funding for research into the prevention and early detection of lung cancer. It also supports patients and their families, and helps tens of thousands of smokers to quit. The charity also uses its influence to campaign against the tobacco industry and gives a voice to people affected by lung cancer, and for more research and improved outcomes in lung cancer.
We are a charity with ambitious plans to increase our impact on a national scale. This includes significantly increasing the breadth of our research; and ensuring that more people affected by lung cancer obtain access to gold standard care and support.
Volunteering
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only major charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer. We believe volunteers are vital. They provide a wide range of relevant skills and perspectives.
As a volunteer with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation you will be working as part of a great team. We have various opportunities available and we would appreciate as much or as little of your time as you are able to commit.
If you fancy a chance to come to some great events and have some fun days out why not volunteer as an Events Cheerer to support our runners/walkers and encourage them on? Within the fundraising department there are various activities, such as assisting with event organisation, filling goody bags and stuffing envelopes for mail shots. Alternatively, you may wish to help us with emptying and replacing our collection boxes.
There are lots of opportunities in Roy Castle shops. As well as helping on the sales floor, there are behind the scenes roles, such as pricing, sorting, hanging and steaming stock. Many shops have specialist roles in their book, music, furniture and electrical departments. If you are a driver, you could help by collecting donated stock. Volunteers are regularly needed to post bags throughout the area and to help our drivers unload donated stock from the van.
Within our Tobacco Control Department, opportunities include helping around the office with general administrative duties. As a Telephone Helpline Volunteer you would provide support to clients who are attempting to quit smoking. Or the Fagends Team has opportunities for those people who are able to help with poster and leaflet drops throughout the area.
