Payroll giving is an excellent way to make tax free donations to charity through your pay. Payroll giving donations are one of the most valuable sources of support and income for our charity. These regular donations allow us to plan ahead and secure the resources we need to continue our vital work.
You can make weekly or monthly donations. For every £1 you donate, it will only cost you 78p because the donation is made before tax is deducted, and the tax man will give the 22p to the charity. For those who pay tax at the higher rate (40%), the donation is even more cost efficient and will only cost the donor 60p for every £1 pledged.
The amount of the donation can be changed whenever you wish. You do not have to give forever - you can stop whenever you like - just tell your payroll department.
All you need to do is:
- Check that your company offers the scheme to employees
- Choose how much you wish to donate each pay day. There is no maximum, but the minimum is £1.00 per month.
- Click here to download a payroll giving form. Complete and return the form to us at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, 200 London Road, Liverpool, L3 9TA.
If your company doesn’t run a payroll giving scheme:
- Encourage them to set one up. Payroll giving is easy to set up and is little or no cost to the employer.
There is now a government incentive grant available for small to medium sized enterprises (500 employees or less) which implement a new payroll giving scheme for their employees. This will be available to employers until December 2006. In addition, new employee donations will be matched by the government, £ for £, up to a maximum of £10 per month, per employee, for the first 6 months, offering extra benefit to the charity.
