Every day in Great Britain about 450 children start smoking.
It is very rare for someone to take up smoking as an adult, the majority of smokers start during adolescence. 95% of smokers started smoking as children.
Every day over 300 smokers die as a result of their habit.
Approximately half of all smokers will ultimately be killed by their habit.
Tobacco is the only legally available product which, even when used correctly, harms the users.
20% of women and 32% of men are ex-smokers.
67% of current smokers would like to quit.
Smoking kills almost six times as many people as road and other accidents, suicide, murder, manslaughter, poisoning, overdoses and HIV put together!
