I'm 11 and we have been learning about smoking at skool. Don't let people pressure you to smoke. You could really hurt yourself.

I recently had a person come into my office who had tried numerous things to quit smoking and had failed every time. When I spoke with her about her past experiences, she told me about how horrible and "nervous" she felt while on Zyban / Wellbutrin which is something that many clients tell me. In examining the reasons why she had not been able to stop smoking, I got an answer that seems strange when you think about it logically, but yet is a very common answer… fear of "losing my best friend". How can something be your "best friend" when by your own report, you say you hate the sell, inconvenience and cost? She hated being controlled by cigarettes, but yet called them her "best friend".
The answer surfaced very quickly once I made contact with the "inner smoker" and followed the chain of feelings to determine the "core feeling" was that the "inner smoker" was trying to get by smoking. It was about "love". At the unconscious level, smoking was "love". Any wonder it was hard to quit… love is a very basic human need.

It seems that
everytime I read another sufferer's agonizing story, I
shed more tears and feel my heart aching more and more!
The pain that I feel physically with my respiratory
condition and for the sorrow and grief of losing half my
sick family to lung cancer and the agonizing sorrow for
other sufferers who share my pain seems endless! I
wonder when this pain will end. There are no words to
begin to describe the horrible ache in my heart and soul
for the incredible loss I've experienced from this nasty
smoking habit. There are no words and my heart goes out
to all the countless other sufferers who are sick from
exposure to secondhand smoke and from the grief of
losing their own loved ones! Let's keep up the fight and
keep up the great important work! We MUST protect
children from this nasty heinous poison known as
environmental tobacco smoke! Children should be
protected and loved, not hurt and poisoned!
Peace and Harmony,

It is
difficult to calculate the best way to advise on the
proven danger of smoking, which has no health benefits,
and almost gurantees grave health risk, whilst it is
still legal to purchase. As an addictive substance, it
is very difficult to give up, therefore it is, of course
better not to start. Yet this message seems hypocritical
when tobacco companies are free to push their product.

My mother died 8 weeks ago from small cell lung cancer.
She was ill for 2 1/2 years and died the most awful
death imaginable. She really suffered a great deal. I am
absolutely desparate for my children not to start
smoking and think we as parents have a huge
responsibility in educating children in the dangers of
smoking and give them enough information for them to
take the decision not to start smoking.

Coming from a family of smokers, I gave up smoking for
Lent this year. I've just come back from visiting my
Uncle in Hospital. Please pray for him and for all those
who started smoking before we knew how dangerous it is.
