Irish Cancer Society
The Irish Cancer Society is the national charity dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and to improving the lives of those living with cancer.
In 2004 the Irish Cancer Society was part of a pro health alliance, which supported the introduction of the work place smoking ban and has seen 99% compliance in the workplace. The ban led to a reduction in smoking, however, due to the failing of the government to increase the price of cigarettes in Budget 2003, 2004 and 2005 the price of cigarettes fell in real terms. This resulted in a resurgence in smoking. Following extensive lobbying from the Irish Cancer Society in 2006 the government increased the price of 20 cigarettes by 0.50euros in the most recent budget.
The Irish Cancer Society also delivers the national smoking quitline in partnership with the HSE. We have taken over 50,000 calls since it was set up in November 2003.

The main objective of the Lung Cancer Patient's Foundation is the prevention of lung cancer, research and better attendance of people affected by this disease. The objective until the end of 2007 is to establish the Foundation allowing it to grow little by little, to continue recruiting new members and to make its objectives more ambitious year by year. The plan for the first three years is based on learning to work and organise ourselves as a Foundation, the diffusion of the Foundation and the development of information plans about lung cancer. The core activities will be a Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign set up to interact with other NGO's in Argentina, create anti smoking campaigns, provide a wide variety of activities towards prevention of lung cancer and work closely with health authorities (especially providing patients, tools for access to medication and treatments).

National Lung Cancer Partnership
National Lung Cancer Partnership is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
dedicated to decreasing deaths due to lung cancer, and helping patients live
longer and better through research, awareness and advocacy.
Founded in 2001 as Women Against Lung Cancer, the organization changed its
name to National Lung Cancer Partnership in 2006 to better reflect the
partnership we have forged with physicians, researchers, lung cancer
survivors and their families, advocacy organizations and the media to help
achieve our mission. We are ultimately working to advance lung cancer
treatments for all patients, but we are currently focusing our efforts on
women because women do not perceive lung cancer's threat to their health;
women make up a disproportionate number of never-smokers with lung cancer,
and are otherwise differently affected by the disease; and women are
powerful agents of change.
