Launch of Lung Cancer Awareness Month - England & Wales
Lung Cancer Awareness Month was kicked off at Hampden, the home of Scottish football by Alex McLeish Scotland's Football Manager. Alex McLeish is backing the campaign by encouraging men who may look & feel healthy, to also be vigilant of the warning signs.
At the launch on the 1st November, Alex said “We men are particularly guilty of putting off visiting our GP if something is on our mind and we convince ourselves that it will go away on its own. Although lung cancer is common, I don’t think men tend to worry that they may actually get it if they feel healthy. I am delighted to be involved in helping to raise awareness throughout this month. I’d urge anyone who has a concern, no matter how small, to go to their GP and get it checked out.
Alex has also written a letter to all Scotland's football teams advising people of the early signs and symptoms. It is envisaged that this letter will be published in football programmes throughout Scotland during November.
