13/12/2005 Could Wirral Girl Be New Saatchi? Fifteen year-old Vicke Cheung from the Wirral has won a national design competition by creating a logo for Liverpool-based charity The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation's soon-to-launch Anti-Tobacco Youth Campaign (ATYC) forum. The Foundation, the only charity in the world dedicated to beating lung cancer, launched the ATYC logo competition as a first step towards establishing a young people's forum. Its recent research, in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University, revealed that a third of primary school children have tried smoking - clearly indicating a need to campaign to support the health of young people. Mike Unger, chief executive of The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation says: "Everything about ATYC will be driven by young people and identifying a logo is a very important first step in establishing the forum's brand identity. Vicke's design really stood out from hundreds of entries and will be used on all marketing materials for ATYC, including the website." Vicke's prize for winning the competition was a unique opportunity this week, to work with an creative director at pioneering advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in London, where they helped put the final touches to her design. Kate Stanners, executive creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi says: "We loved working with Vicke to finalise her logo. In fact, we didn't have much work to do as her design already clearly signified what ATYC will be about. Nurturing young people is a real priority to Saatchi & Saatchi - we're an ideas company and believe that ideas can come from anywhere, and from anyone." The Foundation actively helps to educate children in schools throughout the country about the dangers of smoking and encourages young people to campaign against tobacco through its educational programme, KATS (Kids Against Tobacco Smoke) for younger children, and the forthcoming ATYC group.
