Kirwans announces years support for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation

One of Merseyside’s leading law firms has announced that it is to make its own major contribution in the fight against lung cancer .

Kirwans Solicitors has teamed up with The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation for a year-long fundraising programme.

The Liverpool based charity is the only one in the UK solely dedicated to defeating the disease, which kills one person every 15 minutes.

Kirwans’ managing partner, David Kirwan, said the Foundation was the firm’s nominated charity for the next 12 months and added that he and his colleagues were committed to generating a cash bonanza for the organisation.

“All our staff felt it was important to do their bit to help support a locally-based national charity and particularly one engaged in such a critical cause.

“We at Kirwans are looking forward with immense pride to helping the Foundation make a real difference.”

The charity was founded named after Roy Castle the popular entertainer and TV presenter who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992.

It aims to combat the disease through research into early detection, campaigning and education, and provides support to lung cancer patients and carers across the UK.

The Foundation relies on corporate and public support because it receives no Government funding for its research programmes.

Fundraising Manager, Janine Drew said "We were delighted to hear that Kirwans had chosen us as their charity partner for 2008.

“Plans are already underway to organise some great fundraising activities which will take place during the next 12 months. We are extremely grateful for the support and efforts of the staff, who will help raise much needed funds for the charity."
