Your Cycle Kerala voyage starts in Thattekad, taking you through dramatic mountain scenery and tea plantations. You’ll visit the site of the world-famous arch dam of Idukki, before cycling down to the finish in Marari to complete this once-in-a-lifetime charity cycling event.

You will then be rewarded with a well-deserved rest, giving you time to relax on the golden sand at Marari Beach, or opportunity to visit the nearby historical city of Fort Cochin.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Depart UK
  • Day 2: Land and transfer to first hotel. Enjoy a welcome dinner and challenge briefing, before getting an early night and a good night’s sleep!
  • Day 3: Your charity cycling event begins.
  • Sights include: Periyar riverbank, low altitude forests of Neriamanagalam and some of the world’s highest tea plantations. Cycling distance: 70km / 43 miles.
  • Day 4: You’re up for an early breakfast, then it’s a short transfer to start you Cycle Keraya adventure continues.
  • Sights include: Lockhart gap, Bison Valley and Cardamom Hills. Cycling distance: 80km / 50 miles.
  • Day 5: This is the most challenging day of your Cycle Kerala experience.
  • Sights include: Spice plantations, arch dam of Idukki and Kulamavu. Cycling distance: 80km / 50 miles (including steep climb).
  • Day 6: Today, you will cycle your longest distance but it’s a much less challenging day.
  • Sights include: 24km descent and tranquil backwaters of Kumarakom. Cycling distance: 98km / 61 miles
  • Day 7: The last day of cycling
  • Sights include: Breakfast on board a houseboat across the Vembanad Lake and and celebratory dinner in Marari. Cycling distance: 30km
  • Day 8: Free time in Marari
  • Day 9: Fly back to the UK.
  • Day 10: Arrive UK.

Requirements

This cycling event has been designed to be challenging. You will be cycling for five consecutive days in very hot temperatures, covering a distance of 358km / 222 miles, so if you sign up for Cycle Kerala you will need to fitness train beforehand. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy this challenge.

Cycle Kerala is open to anyone over the age of 18. Those aged 14-17 may sign up but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

What’s included?

Accommodation

8-night accommodation. You will stay in hotels along the way in twin rooms with en suite bathroom, expect for one night where you will camp in a tent.

Meals

All meals will be provided, and all dietary requirements catered for.

Travel

Flights are included. All luggage will be transported by the support vehicles. Please note, there will be a charge for airport taxes and fuel surcharge, payable 8 weeks before departure.

Tour Guide

This charity cycling event is run by Global Adventure Challenges. An experience leader accompanies every group through their challenge and the company works with in-country ground handlers, who employ qualified local guides to boost the local economy.

Payment options

There are two different payment options for the Cycle Kerala challenge:

Option A: Raise a minimum sponsorship

  • Pay £299 registration fee to Global Adventure Challenge
  • Raise a minimum £3200 sponsorship for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
  • 80% of the minimum sponsorship must be in the account at least 11 weeks before the challenge departure date. All outstanding sponsorship must be sent to the charity within six weeks of completing the challenge.
  • Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation will be invoiced by Global for the remaining balance of the Challenge 10 weeks prior to departure.

Option B: Self-funding option

  • Pay £299 registration fee to Global Adventure Challenge
  • Pay the cost of the challenge (£1600) 11 weeks before departure
  • If you wish, you can also raise additional funds to support Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
