A multi-talented musician who loves entertaining, John is well known in his local community for his fundraising.

This time, he’s planning a ‘Chard’s Got Talent’ Show to find the next big act! Over the next few months, John will be organising a number of Open Mic Nights at his local Rugby Club. He will be selecting the best talents to perform at the talent show, to be held at Chard Guildhall on 2nd June 2017.

He said, “In mid-2013, my wife Rose was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and although we launched an attack on this unwelcome intruder, two years later Rose died in May 2015. That was just eight months after my younger brother, Martin, also died of the same disease.

Before she died, my Rose told me not to mope about, feeling sorry for myself. So, in picking myself up, I made a vow in her memory to raise funds to eradicate lung cancer. It may not happen in my lifetime, but I’m going to do my best!

Then, on the internet, I came across Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, and thought, ‘This is the number one charity’. I’m sure my Rose guided me to it, bless her.

Since July of last year, I have been involved with others in raising nearly £30,000.

Roy Castle was also a Yorkshireman like me, and what an all-round entertainer he was! Give me time and I might get close to his abilities!”
