It is with deep sadness, we announce the death of our chairman Sir Philip Carter CBE.
Sir Philip was Chairman of the Board at Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation from 1998
Paula Chadwick, chief executive of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “For the past 17 years Sir Philip has been a dedicated, passionate and inspiring ambassador for our charity.
“He was a friend to many people associated with us over the years and has helped us raise millions of pounds to beat lung cancer.
“His energy and commitment to our cause will never be forgotten and he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.”
Professor Ray Donnelly, founder of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, said: “Sir Philip has been a magnificent chairman for nearly 20 years and has been an absolute rock through all our highs and lows. He was held in high esteem by everyone who knew him and we will miss him greatly.”
Sir Philip’s professional career was in The Littlewoods Organisation becoming Managing Director in 1976. He also became Chairman of the Merseyside Tourism Board in 1986. Sir Philip had a long association with Everton Football Club being Chairman for 20 years and a board member for 30 years.
He also maintained a long association with Liverpool John Moores University being Chairman of Governors; Pro Chancellor; Chairman of University Trust. Sir Philip was elected to the chairmanship of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in 1998.
