TV star Tricia Penrose launches ‘Dream’ single for Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation
Singer and actor Tricia Penrose, star of ITV’s ‘Heartbeat’, has recorded a moving anthem in support of the 25th anniversary of Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
The charity was founded on 18th April 1990 by chest surgeon Professor Ray Donnelly at a meeting in his office in the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.
It was first named the Lung Cancer Fund but was renamed five years later after the death of TV presenter and entertainer Roy Castle, who did so much for the charity in the last year of his life. The events are recorded in Professor Donnelly’s book ‘Cinderella Cancer’.
Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in both men and women.
In the last 25 years the charity has invested many millions of pounds into research into the early detection of lung cancer, played a major role in the introduction of the ban on smoking in public places and has supported thousands of people living with lung cancer. It also currently holds the secretariat for the Global Lung Cancer Coalition, spanning over 20 countries.
Tricia Penrose has had a special reason for supporting the charity since her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago.
Her new song, ‘You Had A Dream In Your Heart’, will be available from Friday April 17 on iTunes and other digital services, including Amazon, MP3, Google Play and cdBaby,
Tricia said: “This is a special song to me, as it’s supporting a cause very close to my heart. Lung cancer is a disease which can affect anyone, at any stage of life. If you have lungs, you can get lung cancer.
“So the work that Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation does to fund research into finding the cure and to support families living with the disease is vital. They’ve achieved so much in the past 25 years - just imagine what we might see in the next 25!
“This song sums up how many of us feel when we’re up against the tough times – and how it’s so important to hold onto your dreams.”
All proceeds from the record will go to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
The words were written by Professor Ray Donnelly and the music was composed by his son-in-law, musician James Holmes.
Professor Donnelly said: “This is a marvellous gesture of support from Tricia to mark our 25th anniversary. She has such great talent and we hope it will make thousands of pounds for our work”.
