Spring Trail FAQ

What is Spring Trail?
Spring Trail is an outdoor family fundraising walk with puzzles, activities and obstacles along the way, designed to keep your little chicks entertained over the Easter period. By cracking all the clues, they unscramble the mystery phrase on their puzzle page to receive their medal at the end.  
 
When and where is the event taking place?
Spring Trail will be taking place at National Trust Formby, Victoria Road, Formby, Liverpool L37 1LJ on Saturday 6th April 2019 from 10 am to 3 pm (last entry 2pm)
 
How old or young should children be to participate?
Spring Trail has been specifically designed for active children between the ages of 4 and 8, therefore some of the activities may not be suitable for the younger children. But younger and older sibling are very welcome to come and join in the fun. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children at all times.
 
Can I buy a ticket on the day?
Unfortunately we cannot accepts booking on the day of the event. All tickets need to be booked in advance to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment at Spring Trail
Registration will close at midnight on Thursday 4th April. No bookings will be taken after this time
All money raised from ticket sales will go towards vital lung cancer research and helping families and patients living with lung cancer
 
When should we arrive?
Please arrive anytime within your allocated half an hour time slot and leaving ample to park your car. Unfortunately your timeslot is non-transferrable on the day.
 
Is there parking and how much does it cost?
There are two car parks located on site: Victoria Road, Formby, L37 1LJ and Lifeboat Road Formby, Liverpool L37 2DD. Please be aware there will be a CASH charge for non-National Trust members to park in both of these car parks. If you are interested in becoming a National Trust member and supporting the vital conservation work that keeps Formby a special place for everyone and to gain free car parking access on the day. please visit their website: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/join-and-get-involved. The closest cash point is located on Harington Road.
 
Do under two’s need to book tickets? 
Under two’s can come along for free, but do need to register for a ticket within the booking application so we are able to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment at Spring Trail. 
 
Can I cancel my ticket?
Unfortunately tickets for Spring Trail are non-refundable as all money raised from ticket sales goes towards vital lung cancer research and helping families and patients living with lung cancer
 
Can we bring a picnic?
Of course! There are dedicated picnic tables around the Victoria Road and Lifeboat Road and plenty of places for you to bring a picnic blanket to rest your feet. National Trust Formby woodland also as dog free picnic area by Victoria Road. 
If you do bring a picnic, please make sure to take all of your rubbish with you. There are plenty of litter bins on site, please make use of them to protect the local wildlife and keeps Formby a special place for everyone.
 
Please be aware fires and barbecues are not permitted anywhere on the bench. If you require any more information about Formby Beach safety, please contact the National Trust: formby@nationaltrust.co.uk
Speciality coffee and hot drinks as well as homemade cakes are available from Squirrel Coffee.
 
The cart is located in the picnic site adjacent to the woodland car park at Victoria Road While ice creams, soft drinks and snacks are available from ice cream vans in the woodland and beach car park at Victoria Road, and in the car park at Lifeboat Road.
 
Is there baby changing area?
Baby-changing facilities are available in the ladies, gents and mobility toilets at Victoria Road during opening hours. There are no baby changing facilities at Lifeboat Road.
 
What will happen if it rains during the event?
Spring Trail will take place whatever the weather!
Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather
 
Can I bring my dog?
Well behave dogs are welcome but please keep your dog on a lead for the duration of the event. Dog bags are available on request from the entrance kiosk and there are plenty of litter bins on site, all of which can be used to dispose of your dog bags. 
Please be aware National Trust Formby woodland also as dog free picnic area by Victoria Road.
 
What if I lose something during the event?
All lost property will be kept at the station closest to where it was found. Please do keep all your belongings close to you as the organisers cannot be responsible for your belongings.
 
If you ask any member of staff about your lost property, they will be able to radio all activity stations to see if anything has been handed in. You can also leave your details with staff on the information desk (located inside the registration tent).
All lost property will be taken back to Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation head office after the event, if you realise you are missing something after the event, please email events@roycastle.org and one of the team will be in touch

How can I be involved with sponsoring the event/having an activity station at the Spring Trail?

Will there be First Aid support at the event?
St Johns Ambulance will be at the event in case of any emergencies. If you are in need of first aid, please tell any steward or volunteer at any activity station who will get in touch with St Johns Ambulance- they will come over to you

What should I wear?
Given the active nature of this event, we suggest comfortable clothes and shoes with a good grip. Please consider bringing spare clothes as your child may get muddy or wet when taking on the Spring Trail. Please also take into consideration the weather condition on the day as this event is an outdoor event with no cover. 
 
Lost Child Procedure
Spring Trail is a family-friendly site and we do our best to keep it safe, however we must be clear that all children remain the responsibility of their parents/carers/guardians. The event can get very busy, so please keep an eye on your little ones.
If you do lose sight of your child, please tell the nearest member of staff on an activity station imminently- they are all trained in the lost child procedure and will be able to help you from that point. 
 
Is the trail suitable for disabled children?
Our trail consists of mainly physical challenges and may be unsuitable for individuals with physical disabilities or those with limited mobility.

Can I take photographs or videos of my child at the event? 
Make sure you take lots of photos at Spring Trail- we love to see all the creative ways your little chicks crack the clues. Make sure to use the hashtag #SpringTrail or tag our social media pages:
We will also have a professional photographer on site, so will can snap plenty of pictures throughout the day. Please be aware these images may be use for use by the charity in the further. If you require any more information, please contact the events team: events@roycastle.org 
 
How much sponsorship do I need to raise?
We are encouraging participants to raise a minimum of £50 before the event. To help you do this we have creative an interactive Spring Trail Fundraising page, making both fun and easy to raise even more money to help patients and their families.
There’s a reward on offer too for all the little chicks who raise £50 or more; they’ll receive the VIP treatment on the day and will be presented with a special certificate and tasty chocolate treat as a reward for their efforts.

You can also share your interactive fundraising page with family and friends through social media, WhatsApp or by email. We will be sending you a fundraising pack through the post however you can download a fundraising sponsorship form here.
 
Are there toilets?
Ladies, gents and mobility toilet facilities available at Victoria Road. There are no toilet facilities at Lifeboat Road.
 
Can I pay by card?
Unfortunately there will be no card machines at the event.
 
Is the route pram/wheelchair accessible?
Please be aware the route is set within woodland area therefore the path consists of trail and dirt paths, which have narrow and uneven ground and may become soft depending on weather conditions. If you have any further enquiries about accessibility, please call us on 0333 323 7200
 
What does my ticket include?
Your tickets include your event guide, a variety of 18 puzzles and activities to complete and a medal at the end. And for all the little fundraising chicks who raise £50 or more; a special certificate and tasty chocolate treat as a reward for their efforts. 
 
Where do we go once we arrive?
Once you arrive at the event simply head over to information board located on Victoria Road, this is the start point. Simply present your E-ticket confirmation email and collect your event guide to start the trail
 
What if I forget or can’t find my E Ticket?
Come along to the start and tell one of our volunteers the name that the tickets were booked in. They will have a record of your booking.
 
Can I travel to the event from public transports?
The closest train stations to Victoria Road is Freshfields train station what is a 3-minute walk. For more information about trains and buses to Formby, visit https://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/Pages/Welcome.aspx
 
How long will it take to complete the trail?
The time to complete the route does varies, especially depending on little legs, however we estimate the trail takes an hour to complete. 
 
How much money do I need to bring on the day? 
Please be aware there will be a CASH charge of £7.50 for non-National Trust member to park in the Victoria Road and Lifeboat Road car park. The closest cash point is located on Harington Road.
