What’s happening in May

View all Blog

So here we are, heading into our sixth week of lockdown. The good news is we’ve got loads happening in May to keep you busy, keep you entertained and keep you that little bit less isolated. Here’s Rachel from our Communications team to tell you more…

National Tapathon

So, the big news is we have launched our National Tapathon. Those of you who remember Roy Castle will know what an amazing tap dancer he was, so as part of our 30th anniversary appeal, we want everyone to join together and learn a tap-inspired routine taught by the Greatest Dancer Finalist, Harrison Vaughan.

Then, on Sunday 24th May, we’ll all come together in the comfort and safety and privacy of our own home and dance! Now it doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned pro or have two left feet, everyone can take part. It’s a great way to get some exercise, have some fun, pay tribute to the incredible Roy Castle and support those living with lung cancer.

Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney services

Throughout May, we are offering our free Will and discounted lasting power of attorney service. We’ve arranged with our Estate Planning partner, McClure, to have appointments over Skype, Zoom or the phone.

There’s so much uncertainty at the minute and many of us are scared and worried about the impact of COVID-19. This service can provide a little bit of control and peace of mind that, whatever happens, your loved ones are protected and provided for.

90s Virtual Quiz with Pat Sharp

We are hosting a Virtual 90s quiz – again all part of our 30th anniversary. We were born in the 90s so it makes sense for it to be a 90s quiz! And the legend that is Pat Sharp, the host of childhood gameshow FunHouse, will be hosting.

So start swatting up on your Spice Girls, Euro 96, Titanic and tagagotchis and join Pat for some 90s nostalgia on Thursday 28th May on our Facebook page.

Patient support services

As always, our Ask the Nurse service and our new Keep in Touch support service continue to run and continue to be really busy.

It’s wonderful to hear from patients and carers who are using the service and finding the service helpful.

Our Ask the Nurse service is available Monday to Thursday 9-5 and Friday 9-4. You can call 0800 358 7200 or email any questions to lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org. You can also sign up for our Keep in Touch support service here.

Sneaky peak to our next virtual run.

We are just finalising our next virtual run. So many of you took part, and continue to take part in, our Easter Run that we’ve come up with a new idea.

We’ll give you a clue… You definitely WANNABE a part of this and don’t worry if you hit a (wonder) wall, we’ll be there for youdidn’t quite work. Anyway, watch this space for further details.

We just want to end by saying a huge thank you for all your support through this. We have been overwhelmed with the response to our anniversary appeal and blown away by your creativity for fundraising in isolation.

It’s tough at the minute, particularly because we don’t know how long we’ll be in this situation, but we are now much more hopeful for the future and you’ve done that so thank you.
